Magaly Blas studied Medicine at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), and finished her MPH and PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Washington (UW). Dr. Blas has conducted research studies about the epidemiology of HIV, HPV, HTLV, and other Sexually Transmitted Infections in different populations. She has also conducted research on the use of ICT for HIV prevention and to improve maternal and child health.
Dr. Blas is an Associate Professor at UPCH and an Affiliate Associate Professor at the Department of Global Health at the UW. She is the Director of Mamás del Río (Mama River), a Program to improve maternal and newborn health in rural areas in the Peruvian Amazon. Magaly has been awarded the 2016 Elsevier Foundation Award for early career women scientists, the 2016 L’Oreal-UNESCO Concytec Award for Peruvian women scientists and the 2016 Award of Good Practices in Public Administration for the Mama River project. In 2018 she received the prestigious Einsenhower fellowship and the Women in Innovation award by Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University. In 2019 she received the Award for “Social Innovation in Health” from the Pan-American Health Organization.
