Coronary Atherosclerosis and Immune Activation in HIV and Tuberculosis Infection

Latent tuberculosis infection affects 1.7 billion people globally, and is a common coinfection in persons living with HIV. In this project, we will define the role of latent tuberculosis infection as a contributor of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk and immune activation in persons living with HIV. We will therefore examine a prevalent, preventable, and treatable coinfection in persons with HIV to inform the design of future interventions to decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease in this population.
