2021 Global Health Career Week Lineup and Registration Information

The annual Global Health Career Week, hosted by the Department of Global Health, connects students of all levels to organizations, professionals, and opportunities in the field of public health. The line-up includes a virtual Alumni Conversation and Social Media Training, along with panels for PhD and undergraduate students planning to pursue careers in public health.

As part of 2020 Global Health Career Week, in collaboration with the School of Public Health, the Department of Global Health organized a week of Zoom sessions for participants to present information on their organization, their work, the culture of hiring, job or internship opportunities that might arise, and how students might best prepare for life after college.

Each year the Department of Global Health invites organizations to campus for our annual career fair to talk with our students about working in global and local health during Global Health Career Week. This year we are doing something a bit different and have invited a number of our regular fair participants to each host an hour long ZOOM session where they might present information on their organization, their work, the culture of hiring, job or internship opportunities that might arise, and how students might best prepare for these session.

Before reaching her current position of Field Coordinator with Doctors Without Borders, Karin Huster was a Registered Nurse and an MPH student at the University of Washington’s Department of Global Health. Working alongside professors , Huster gathered a multitude of skills that she’s used to advance her career. In addition to her wide-ranging field work, Huster is a regular writer and contributor to radio shows and podcasts.

Leading Pakistan’s New Wave of Disease Hunters: Q&A with Dr. Rana Jawad Asghar, MPH 1998

Born in Pakistan and educated at the University of Washington from 1996-1998, Dr. Rana Jawad Asghar has carved an impressive career in global health. Stints at UW (where he earned a Master’s in Public Health), Stanford, and University of Bristol preceded several jobs across the globe, spanning from Mozambique to Atlanta, Georgia. Today, Asghar serves as the CEO of Global Health Strategists & Implementers, a consulting firm focused on improving the global population’s health. Dr.
