Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer Selected as UW Health Sciences 2021-22 Common Book

Each year, an open group from within the University of Washington Health Sciences selects a Common Book that serves as a platform for students from across health professions to learn together on topics of common importance. Throughout the school year students have the opportunity to participate in a series of lectures, interactive discussions, advocacy efforts, and seminars focused on the major topic(s) of the book.

A Message from UW Health Sciences Deans

Dear UW Health Sciences Community,

Our country is once again experiencing the tragic realities of the racism present in our society.

The slaying of Ahmaud Arbery while jogging in Brunswick, GA; the shooting death of Breonna Taylor by police in Louisville; the false and racist accusation of violence against Christian Cooper in New York City; and most recently, the tragic killing of George Floyd as he was restrained by a police officer in Minneapolis.

These are only the most recent manifestations of the racist ideologies we all need to confront and eliminate.
